Surface treatment for print and lamination readiness
A reported treatment value is not the same as proven ink or adhesive adhesion. First identify the exact working side, then connect the test method and measurement timing to the ink, coating, primer or adhesive system that will actually run.

Wetting evidence is an input to adhesion—not the final approval
ASTM D2578 and ISO 8296 both state that measured wetting tension can be related to the ability of film to accept inks, coatings or adhesives only through experience, and is not by itself a complete adhesion measure. Formulation, additives, contamination, storage and time after treatment can also change the surface presented to the converter.

Move from a broad comparison to an approvable decision.
Name and label the exact surface
Use a side map showing print, treatment, metal, coating, lamination and seal surfaces. Repeat the orientation on the roll label.
Record when the surface was measured
Connect the result to treatment, storage and conversion dates. A historical value should not be silently presented as a pre-run measurement.
Validate with the actual liquid system
Run the intended ink, coating, primer or adhesive and judge its cure, retention or bond using the agreed converted specimen.

06 EVIDENCE BOUNDARY
Do not publish a universal treatment threshold
The referenced standards explain wetting-tension measurement and explicitly warn that wetting tension alone does not establish acceptable adhesion. This guide therefore gives no invented treatment value. The converter, ink or adhesive owner and supplier must agree the method, timing and application-specific pass criteria.

Resolve the assumptions that make quotes diverge.
01Does a wetting-tension result prove ink or adhesive adhesion?+
No. ASTM D2578 and ISO 8296 treat wetting tension as a surface measure that must be related to acceptable ink, coating or adhesive retention through application experience and validation.
02Why should the treatment side appear on the roll label?+
Many treated or coated surfaces are not reliably identified by appearance. A side map and roll label reduce the risk of printing, laminating or sealing against the wrong surface.
03When should the buyer request a surface measurement?+
Agree the decision point with the converter. Record supplier results with their date and sample history, then repeat a check near conversion when storage, age or handling could affect the surface.
04What closes a print or lamination readiness decision?+
The exact film should run with the intended ink, coating, primer or adhesive under representative conditions and pass the agreed cure, retention, bond and appearance checks.
