Aluminium foil pinholes, wettability and surface cleanliness: write the acceptance basis

“No pinholes” and “clean surface” are not complete purchase requirements. First identify the exact plain, coated or converted foil and working side. Then attach each pinhole, wetting or visual-surface result to a current method, inspected sample, reporting basis and agreed disposition.

02 DECISION FRAME

A surface result becomes useful only when its scope and decision rule travel with it

ASTM B926 and GB/T 22638.2 provide pinhole-method contexts for aluminium foil, while GB/T 22638.4 addresses surface wetting tension. ISO 8296 states that wetting tension is not by itself a complete measure of ink, coating or adhesive adhesion. EAFA supplies a shared vocabulary for visual foil characteristics but says that vocabulary does not replace supplier-customer quality agreements. These sources help structure the RFQ; none creates a LayerSource acceptance value, supply claim or conversion guarantee.

Method scope and shared vocabulary do not create a universal foil limit

Confirm the current licensed document and its applicability to the exact plain or converted foil. Pinhole limits, wetting values, cleanliness evidence, sampling, retest and disposition remain buyer, converter and supplier agreement fields. No value or capability on this page describes a LayerSource-supplied grade.

07 BUYER QUESTIONS

Resolve the assumptions that make quotes diverge.

01Does a “zero pinholes” requirement work without a test method?

Not as a comparable acceptance rule. Identify the exact foil state and thickness, current method, inspected area, roll and lot scope, category definitions, reporting basis, acceptance owner and disposition.

02Are pinholes and roll holes always reported as separate categories?

Not automatically. ASTM B926 says its plain-foil scope identifies and counts pinholes, including roll holes. If the buyer needs separate categories or dispositions, write those definitions into the controlled agreement.

03Can aluminium-foil wettability replace a lamination or print trial?

No. A wetting-tension method and a representative conversion trial answer different acceptance questions. Keep the wetting result attached to the exact side, surface state, method, date and storage history, then record the intended ink, coating, primer or adhesive trial separately.

04Can visually clean foil pass without a surface-quality agreement?

Visual inspection needs agreed language, reference examples, location, extent and disposition. EAFA describes its catalogue as a common language for discussion, not a replacement for an individual quality agreement. A separately specified non-visual measurement needs its own applicable method and decision rule.

05Can a plain-foil method be applied to coated or laminated foil?

Confirm scope before use. ASTM B926 is explicitly for plain foil, and DIN Media states that DIN EN 546-4 does not apply to lacquered, coloured, embossed or laminated products. Select or agree the method for the actual construction.
