Aluminium foil alloy, temper and thickness: write the RFQ basis
Alloy, temper and thickness answer different questions. The alloy designation identifies a controlled chemistry system, the temper identifies condition, and thickness needs its own unit, method and tolerance basis. Keep those fields separate before adding surfaces, converting and roll requirements.

A familiar designation is not a complete foil specification
The Aluminum Association publishes alloy and temper designation systems and separate dimensional-tolerance standards. ASTM B479 covers annealed aluminium and alloy foil within its own scope. These references organize RFQ language; they do not establish which alloy or temper a LayerSource supplier offers, prove food-contact status or replace purchaser-producer agreement.

Record alloy and temper exactly as controlled by the current specification, or mark them open to recommendation with the converter’s required outcome.
Write the thickness basis
State the nominal value, unit, method, instrument, sampling locations, rounding and tolerance owner instead of sending a bare gauge number.

06 EVIDENCE BOUNDARY
Designation and standard scope are not supplier or compliance proof
ANSI H35.1/H35.1M addresses alloy and temper designations, while H35.2 addresses dimensional tolerances in its applicable scope. ASTM B479 has its own material scope and purchaser-producer provisions. Verify the current licensed documents and exact supply evidence; do not infer food-contact suitability, certification, tolerance or availability from the title alone.
07 BUYER QUESTIONS
Resolve the assumptions that make quotes diverge.
01Does an aluminium alloy designation include the temper?+
No. Record alloy and temper as separate controlled fields under the applicable designation system, then add thickness, surface, conversion and roll requirements.
02Is nominal foil thickness enough for a comparable quotation?+
No. Add the unit, measurement method, instrument or method reference, sampling locations, rounding, tolerance basis and the rule for resolving purchaser-supplier differences.
03Does ASTM B479 prove a foil is suitable for food contact?+
No. A standard’s material scope does not by itself establish regulatory suitability for a supplied grade, coating, laminate, packed product or destination market. Request current, scope-matched compliance evidence.
04Can an H35.2 tolerance be copied into any foil RFQ?+
First confirm the current revision, product form, unit system and applicable table or agreement. Record any purchaser-producer exception and do not reproduce a paid tolerance table from a secondary source.
