BOPP vs CPP film: choose by layer role, not polymer name
Both are polypropylene films, but they enter a packaging structure with different starting assumptions. BOPP is biaxially oriented; CPP is cast. The useful buying question is which web must print, carry stiffness, seal, flex or tolerate the intended process.

BOPP is commonly evaluated for outer-web, label, overwrap and lamination roles where clarity, stiffness or print presentation matters. CPP is commonly evaluated for flexible inner-web and heat-seal roles. Coatings, coextruded layers, treatment and specialty formulations can change those roles, so confirm the exact grade instead of approving from the acronym.

Move from a broad comparison to an approvable decision.
Assign the layer jobs first
State which web carries print, stiffness, barrier and sealing. One film may perform more than one job, but that must be supported by its construction.
Mark every working side
Identify the print, treated, lamination and seal sides plus the unwind direction. Side ambiguity can make a suitable film unusable at conversion.
Define the trial pass criteria
Record runnability, seal response, bond, optics and finished-pack checks before the supplier sample enters the line.

01Is CPP always the sealant and BOPP always the outer web?+
No. Those are useful starting roles, not universal rules. Heat-sealable BOPP constructions and specialty CPP grades exist. Approve the exact grade by structure, side orientation, line conditions and test evidence.
02Can BOPP and CPP be compared by thickness alone?+
No. Orientation, construction, coatings, treatment, layer position and test conditions all affect the buying decision. Compare the complete structure and the measurable job assigned to each web.
